Rector Place

The client hired our studio to design his new home in Battery Park.  He wanted a comfortable home that felt modest and not overly "designed".  We focused on the use of organic materials, a neutral color palette, and an eclectic mix of vintage and custom furnishings.  By highlighting the view of the historic Hudson River, we were able to recast the unremarkable 1970's architecture into a livable and engaging home that embraces New York's waterfront while providing a restful space in the heart of downtown.  Years later, our client- married with a baby on the way, decided to purchase the unit next door and brought us in to connect the two spaces.  We focused on creating a seamless new space and avoiding the "cobbled together" effect that combining apartments can have.  We further connected the two spaces by threading existing design elements into the new space, while at the same time allowing for a new layer of kid-friendly, familial warmth and color.
